Welding
Analysis of welding arc dynamics and metal transfer

Overview
The welding process is characterized by intense thermal gradients and rapid cooling. The bright core of the process presents a significant challenge for camera-based imaging systems used in additive manufacturing. Advanced laser illumination techniques make it possible to visualize these processes clearly—almost as if they were cold—by effectively suppressing the overwhelming brightness. These imaging solutions can be applied across a wide range of welding methods, including MIG, MAG (GMAW), flux-cored, TIG, hybrid, and laser welding. Additionally, high-speed infrared imaging provides valuable insights into the solidification of the weld pool. This technology supports fundamental research in heat transfer and process monitoring through its high spatial, thermal, and temporal resolution.
